Starfire® ripens 5 to 7 days after Redhaven(+5-7) with an 80% bright red skin and clear yellow, non-browning flesh. It has wonderful flavor and quality with both good handling and storage characteristics. A great fresh market peach, Starfire® produces high tonnage per acre with an excellent cropping record. Hardy, grower friendly tree with resistance to both bacterial spot and peach canker. This variety matures like Redhaven over a fairly long period and hangs and sizes well. Starfire® requires three or four pickings and is a workhorse of a peach that produces high quality fruit year after year.
The Fruit Acres Stellar Peach breeding program was begun in 1982 by Jim Friday of Coloma, MI. The program has been continued by Jim’s daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Randy Bjorge.
